As an antidote almost to my very precise wall sculpture work, I’ve developed what I like to call my sculptor’s drawings series, which I find a very liberating and rewarding thing to do. 

 

I have developed a number of different methods of making these drawings of which these collaged portraits are an example. The process has come from my figurative clay work where layers of pieces of clay have been replace with multiple layers of pieces of torn watercolour paper. The way of working is very much the same and I like the push and pull nature of the process.

 

I work with the client closely through all the stages to make it a very rewarding and memorable experience. After all it’s not everyday you commission a portrait from a real person and I find that special.
